Keep Montgomery County Beautiful Contests
Are you a shutterbug? Or, do you prefer to get your hands dirty in the garden? Regardless of your hobby the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is sponsoring two competitions to shine a light on talented amateur photographers and gardeners in Montgomery County. Through its Keep Montgomery County Beautiful program, MCDOT will capture the beauty of Montgomery County and recognize those individuals and groups that help make it so.
The 21st annual Amateur Photography Contest encourages photographers to capture photos of Montgomery County locations and/or residents engaging in local activities. Photos are judged on effective composition, originality, interest and relevance of the subject matter, and technique.
For more details about the eight contest categories and how content will be judged, visit the contest website.
Another longstanding contest – MCDOT’s Landscaping Contest – is in its 26th year. This contest is open to:
- Community groups
- Businesses such as gas stations, grocery stores and other retail establishments
- Public institutions
- Organizations like Homeowner’s Associations.
Your organization can participate if it has undertaken a landscaping project(s) to enhance the appearance of commonly owned sections of commercial or residential properties in Montgomery County.
Landscaping along County roadsides, medians, or other public locations is also eligible for the award.
If your organization has a green thumb and recently completed a landscaping project, consider submitting it for an award. There are six categories of competition, examples of previous winners and contest details are available on the contest website.
Even if you are not a photographer or gardener you can enjoy images and projects from previous year’s competitions and take pride in those who help to Keep Montgomery County Beautiful.
